Births are down in this country. The pundits say it is because of the bad economy, but I think the reasons are more cultural. (Pundits are people who do not anticipate events, and then explain to you afterwards the reason they occurred. Most often their insights are nonsense.)

Teenage pregnancies are down. They are more interested in electronics than they are in sex. Don’t believe it? Spend some time with them. As for economics, teenagers are way to self-absorbed to think about economics when contemplating having sex, even at the risk of pregnancy.

The Hispanic birthrate is way down too. I think it has to do with the rejection of Catholic doctrine of birth control. It is a result of  the Latino population integrating with the American people’s sensibilities about the appropriate size of a family more than the unemployment rate.
